A Gathering of the latest News affecting our affiliates

Judy Nee conducted conference calls the first week of June to update the affiliate leaders on recent developments related to the FTJ insurance partnership and the new website and some new partnerships. Plans were also developed to hold an Affiliate Summit on July 23-24 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Washington DC. Public Policy Update
Appropriations bills that affect afterschool funding for federal fiscal year 2008 have begun moving in Congress. Congressional leaders are hoping to reverse the trend of the past few years in which few funding bills have been completed, but already timetables are slipping. The Appropriations Committees are proceeding under a veto threat from President Bush, who objects to higher spending levels the Democrats in Congress have proposed for domestic programs.

New Arizona Alliance Addresses Need for Quality Afterschool Programs
Every day when school ends in Arizona, more than 328,000 K-12 students are left unsupervised or without structured activities. The Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence, a new merger of the Arizona School-Age Coalition and the Arizona Out-of-School Time Network, will address this issue by providing comprehensive resources, professional development, and advocacy for the state's afterschool programs, educators, and supporters.
